Homes & Land donates $10,000 to American Cancer Society

Corporate contribution caps off national ‘Homes & Land Cares’ Pink Campaign

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A $10,000 corporate donation to the American Cancer Society on March 16 capped off the most recent “Homes & Land Cares” Campaign in support of the national fight against breast cancer.

On behalf of the company and its franchisees throughout the U.S., Homes & Land Vice President Rob Wicker, Human Resources Manager Carolyn Hicks and Regional Director Doug Smidley presented a super-size pink check to representatives of the American Cancer Society at the organization’s Tallahassee office. Brittany Somerville, Community Manager/Special Events for the Society’s Florida Division, accepted the donation along with DeeDee Rudd, Vice Chairman of the ACS Volunteer Leadership Board.

The $10,000 corporate contribution was only part of Homes & Land’s efforts to support the cause. For the second year, “Homes & Land Cares” put printed pink ribbons on the covers and inside pages of more than 1 million Homes & Land magazines during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. This show of support was made possible by Homes & Land Publishers nationwide, who teamed up with local Realtors to raise awareness and money.

While the corporate check went to the American Cancer Society, funds raised independently by local Publishers and advertisers went to a variety of organizations involved in raising awareness of breast cancer, helping patients with the disease, and supporting cancer detection and research. Eighty-four Homes & Land magazines were part of the “Pink” Campaign.

Homes & Land magazines will ‘go pink’ to raise funds during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. —Homes & Land magazines nationwide will be wearing pink ribbons during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October as local Publishers, real estate agents and the company’s corporate office team up to raise money for charity.

The first “Homes & Land Cares” Pink Campaign, in 2014, raised approximately $25,000 for national and local organizations supporting breast cancer awareness, research and patient services. The total includes $10,000 donated to the American Cancer Society by the Homes & Land corporate office. The remainder was raised by the Publishers of 85 local magazines and their advertisers, in locations ranging from Malibu, Calif., to Outer Banks, N.C., from Vermont to New Smyrna Beach, Fla., and multiple points in between.

This year the corporate office has again pledged to contribute money to the American Cancer Society for each magazine page displaying a pink ribbon in October, up to at total of $10,000. Participating Publishers will donate advertising space and raise funds for contribution to either a local or national nonprofit organization involved in the fight against breast cancer.

“The initial ‘Homes & Land Cares’ Pink Campaign was a great success in uniting our Publishers and advertisers for a good cause. This year we’re committed to repeating and exceeding that achievement,” said Allen Harrod, President of Homes & Land.

“Most of us know someone who has dealt with breast cancer, and more than a few people in the nationwide Homes & Land family have been affected directly. The company would like to support efforts to combat the disease in all the communities we serve,” Harrod said.

Homes & Land magazines throughout the nation will be going pink in support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.

From coast to coast, magazines participating in “Homes & Land Cares” will sport images of pink ribbons as local magazine publishers team up with advertisers to raise money for the fight against breast cancer. Publishers are also donating advertising space for the cause, and Homes & Land’s corporate office is pitching in with cash contributions for pages wearing pink ribbons.

“Most of us know someone who has been touched by this disease, and more than a few people in the nationwide Homes & Land family of franchisees and advertisers have been affected directly, coping with breast cancer personally,” said Allen Harrod, President of Homes & Land. “The company stands united with efforts to combat breast cancer in all the communities we serve.”

The American Cancer Society predicts that about 300,000 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed this year, and more than 40,000 people will die from the disease. Breast cancer death rates have been decreasing since 1989. Those decreases are thought to be due to advances in treatment, earlier detection and increased awareness, the society says. Breast Cancer Awareness Month keeps the disease and its prevention in the public eye while related events raise money for detection and research, and to help those currently dealing with the illness.
