Survey Finds Homeownership is Worth the Risk

by Adrian Amos

The National Home Builders Association just released a survey where American voters were asked about home ownership.

Some interesting findings from the survey include:

  • 75% of respondents agree that owning a home is worth the risk of market fluctuations
  • 80% of homeowners would advise a friend or family member just starting out to buy a home – even those currently “under water” on their mortgages
  • 73% of non-homeowners strive to purchase a home
  • The primary barriers to purchasing a home are saving for down payment/closing costs (31%) and job security (21%)
